Anthony Castro was born in Romblon, Philippines but spent most of his childhood in San Jose, California where he also received his BFA in painting at San Jose State University and his MFA ( painting ) at The Claremont Graduate University, just east of Los Angeles. Castro relocated to New York in 1994 before a capricious stint in Prague, Czech Republic- Castro hustled a modest living painting large graphic murals for dance clubs. One memorable space was a venue in a former communist era ballroom.

Inspired by visual epiphanies of the urban environment and natural phenomenon, many of Castro’s works reference a myriad of visual forms: systems graphics, organization charts, letter forms, sci-fi imagery, industrial landscapes, urban sprawl and personal history.
